CRISIS ALERT

Sudan: The Unseen War Driving the World's Largest Displacement Crisis

The conflict in Sudan has escalated into a full-scale humanitarian catastrophe, killing thousands and **displacing over 12 million people**β€”the largest internal displacement crisis globally. Families fleeing cities like Khartoum and the Darfur region desperately need food, medical support, and safe shelter. Hope Collective is urgently scaling up efforts to reach these vulnerable populations.

A Crisis of Scale: The Plight of Displaced Sudanese

Since the fighting began in April 2023, the conflict between rival forces has destroyed civilian infrastructure and led to widespread ethnically-targeted attacks, particularly in the Darfur region. Over 12 million people have been forced from their homes, with many trapped without aid access, facing extreme shortages of basic necessities.

The disruption has paralyzed essential services. Health facilities are non-functional, and the violence has created severe food scarcity, pushing the nation toward famine. Those who managed to flee to neighboring countries like Chad and South Sudan arrive severely traumatized and empty-handed.

Immediate Needs of Displaced Families

  • **Safe Passage & Shelter:** Families require protection from violence and secure, temporary housing in border areas and IDP camps.
  • **Famine Prevention:** Critical need for high-calorie, nutrient-dense food supplies to prevent mass starvation, especially among children.
  • **Trauma Care:** Access to immediate medical attention and psychological support for survivors of violence and extreme trauma.
  • **Clean Water & Hygiene:** Urgent provision of water treatment and sanitation facilities to curb the spread of cholera and other waterborne diseases.
