Nepal Earthquake: A Race Against Winter to Provide Shelter and Medical Aid

Following the devastating **Magnitude 6.4 earthquake** that struck Nepal's western provinces, thousands of families are left without shelter in remote, high-altitude districts. With temperatures plummeting and winter snow imminent, the humanitarian clock is ticking. Over **150,000 people** are urgently displaced, requiring immediate shelter, warm clothing, and emergency medical care.

The Double Threat: Destruction and Mountain Cold

The quake completely destroyed homes and vital infrastructure, including health posts and schools, in mountainous areas that are already difficult to access. Many of the injured are struggling to reach functional medical facilities, and the collapse of mountain trails has made aid delivery severely challenging.

The most immediate threat is the approaching Himalayan winter. Displaced families are living under thin tarpaulins, susceptible to hypothermia and pneumonia. Without urgent intervention to provide durable, winterized shelter and warm supplies, the death toll from exposure and cold-related illness could drastically rise, particularly among the elderly and young children.

Immediate Needs on the Ground

  • **Winterized Shelter:** Providing galvanized iron sheeting and heavy-duty tarps to build resilient temporary housing.
  • **Emergency Medical Care:** Deploying mobile health units to treat crush injuries, hypothermia, and provide essential first aid.
  • **Warmth & Protection:** Distributing blankets, sleeping bags, and warm clothing to protect families from freezing temperatures.
  • **Food Access:** Airlifting ready-to-eat meals and essential rations to villages cut off by landslides and damaged roads.

Our Mission: Direct Intervention in Remote Districts

Hope Collective is focusing on the hardest-hit, most remote mountain districts. Our strategy relies on utilizing local teams and specialized transport (mules and light aircraft) to ensure aid reaches isolated survivors before the heavy snows begin. We are prioritizing shelter and trauma support.
